Welcome!
Since you’ve clicked on this page, I’m guessing you could be considering hiring a coach of sorts. Are you at a stage in your life where you’ve had success, but still find something lacking overall? Are you at a standstill or feeling stuck in one or more areas of your life? Or better yet, do you just know there’s more for you to fulfill in life and you’re looking for support to see it through?
This is where having a coach and not just any coach, but a coach that’s a good fit for you can make all the difference in the world. I think it’s an essential tool in successfully generating your own happiness. But to help you decide, I hope to answer some questions you may have including, why you should hire one — and if I could be the perfect fit for you.
What is a life coach — And what exactly do we do?
There are some misunderstandings about what a life coach is and how they differ so let me dissolve those. Life coaches generally do not tell you what to do (at least not those that agree with me on the most effective approach). We are not consultants that provide expert advice that you must follow, although we do have a variety of experience and resources in our tool belt. We are “experts” who provide the framework, questions, exercises, and accountability for you to make the positive changes you want for yourself and your life.
Much like a coach/athlete relationship, your results are based on the work you do and your level of commitment. I’m not going to lie to you. Being coached isn’t always “easy”, but the support you get from a coach helps produce results, unlike anything you’re able to do on your own.
The types of questions I may ask as your coach are intended to help you discover blind spots and solutions by asking things you may not think to ask yourself. For example, I may ask questions like: What do you want? What’s holding you back? Or, What are you avoiding? I may also challenge you. Of course, you have the option of accepting, declining, or countering what I say. Remember you are the one making the changes.
I like to say that a life coach wears many hats. I am a facilitator, advocate, friend, navigator, partner, sometimes consultant, but in coaching, you share and own that power. You are taking action and producing the desired results. People often expect their coach to tell them what to do, but here’s the secret: In reality, I’ll be prompting you to tell me what will make the biggest difference in your life.
As your coach, I may be blunt and challenging at times, but it’s only because I want you to succeed in your life’s goals, and that’s why you’re here right?
Are we the right fit?
Coaching is a “two-way street.” I’m not the right fit for everyone and vice versa. I equate the variety of characteristics and preferences in people to flavors and styles. It’s not that anyone is good or bad or right or wrong, but in a coaching relationship, we’re looking to create a powerful dynamic.
I am naturally driven and have a lot of energy. You may even call me “Type A.” While I am comfortable expressing my passion and love, most would not describe me as typically compassionate. My step kids know to go to their dad when they want their boo-boo kissed and to me when they want to get something done.
You are already “successful” and know you are capable of more. You are eager and ready to make something happen. You may or may not be clear on precisely what that something is, but you are willing to go for it and play full out. You are a self-starter and are accountable for your actions. You like, or at least see the value, in being nudged from time to time. You are willing to test and play with your boundaries and comfort levels. You have a big heart and get that you are worthy of having and creating anything your heart desires.
Hiring a life coach is a big step. You might feel as though you could do this yourself, and you probably could. The power is inside you after all. But it is my sincere belief (and I am living proof) that our potential is far greater than the sum of its parts.
Take action and achieve what you truly want.
Your dreams matter!
